Electrical Test Equipments Used By An Electrician

Electrical tasks need special attention and care. If not done properly they can harm the person badly. An electrician goes through long classroom training and apprenticeship program to get the proper knowledge of performing the tasks. They also need to clear some exams to get the certificate mentioning that they can do the electrical work. Without proper knowledge no one should try to do electrical work as it could badly affect his/her health.

Basically an electrician installs the electric wires and tests the existing connections to check the current flow and their functioning. For testing purpose, an electrician need below mentioned tools.

Testers and detectors are two tools that are used before an installation and after an installation. Using these, one can find out the current flow and functioning of any electric appliance or connection. The wires used in a particular connection should be able to bear the load of electricity. Meters can also be used for this.

A multimeter combines the features of other meters like ammeters, ohmmeters and voltmeters in one unit. They are extremely handy for troubleshooting. Multimeters come in either analog or digital versions. Digital multimeters are little more expensive and have more features. However, analog meters are better in indicating the fluctuations in current.

Ammeters are used to measure the flow of electric current within a circuit. Clamp-on ammeters are the most convenient type of ammeter because they can be used without disconnecting any wiring. They are mainly used to measure voltage or resistance in an electrical circuit.

Voltage tester also helps in determining the presence of current in a circuit or electronic device. Every electrician is expected to carry this tool as it enables the electrician to work safely and avoid the chances of an electric shock. Receptacle tester is used to check the ground connections. Continuity tester helps in determining whether current could flow between two points or not.

Circuit breaker detector can help in determining which circuit breaker or fuse leads to which outlets. This can save time and effort when working on an existing system. I f you are trying to locate wiring or pipes behind a finished wall, wire detector is invaluable. It can detect both pipes and live wires, showing you exactly where to go if you need to make repairs or upgrades.

Appliance load tester is a specialized meter for household appliances which measures the amps or watts used by a specific appliance or light. Battery Tester is a great tool for checking all types of batteries to see if they are fully charged or nearing the end of their battery life.
